Kanata-March Horticultural Society

Kanata's Municipal GardensWhere are they? Although they are few and far between, they do exist thanks largely to the Kanata-March Horticultural Society. The KMHS currently looks after three gardens in Kanata: Molly Wilson Memorial Garden, flowerbeds in Tom Thomson Park, and a bed in front of the Hazeldean Branch of the Kanata Public Library. Molly Wilson Memorial Garden First conceived in 1984 and located behind the Old Town Hall, the Molly Wilson Memorial Garden commemorates the contributions to Kanata of a KMHS founding member, Molly Wilson. It is a border garden running out in a large L behind the Society's current meeting place. Norma Davidson is the co-ordinator for this work. Tom Thomson Park The beds in this park on Terron Road were first established by the KMHS in the 1970s. After years of neglect, the Society took the flowerbeds in hand again in 1995. Jean Siemens is co-ordinating the maintenance work on these flowerbeds. It is a yellow theme garden featuring the Society's floral emblem, the golden Sundrop. Margaret Hartshorn is the co-ordinator for this work. ContactIf you are not already a member of one of the public garden teams, and like the idea of contributing a few hours gardening in the company of other Society members, please contact the Parks Director, Norma Davidson.
