Kanata-March Horticultural Society

Our Official Flower - The Sundrop The Sundrop was adopted as the Societys flower, as most gardens in Kanata grow it. It is also known as Oenothera pilosella (Halies). The one we have in our gardens is a Sundrop, not an Evening Primrose, as the Evening Primroses opens their flowers at night while Sundrops blossom all day. They grow in full sun, needing well-drained soil. Centuries ago the Native Peoples cherished this plant for its medicinal qualities. Dawn Bennett sketched the Sundrop flowers for our logo. This design is now part of the District #2 banner and is also part of one of the Ontario Horticultural Associations quilts. To see a photograph click on banner. Sundrop Image © 1998-2008 KMHS
